CBD - One of the most popular 3 letter acronyms to hit the world by storm.
What is it though really?
Everyone is talking about it, but very few understand what it is, where it comes from, and what it does. This is why I’m going to take you on a journey into the world of CBD otherwise known as Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis or hemp.
This compound has stirred the scientific community with its therapeutic and medicinal properties around the world. After countless studies and research conducted by scientists and doctors globally, it’s been agreed that CBD is a safe, non-addictive substance.
CBD is a closely related compound to another compound known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that is known for its therapeutic effects as well as the compound that causes the high that cannabis is known for.
There are thousands of phytocannabinoids associated with hemp and cannabis plants that continue to be researched but as of now CBD and THC have been the most widely researched and understood. CBD unlike its cousin THC does not make a person feel “high” or feel “under the influence”. The main reason is that CBD and THC act in different ways on the receipts in the brain and body.
CBD is the perfect compound for those seeking therapeutic effects without the psychoactive or head high that cannabis is known for. CBD’s ability to provide a variety of health benefits, ease of consumption, and access makes it an ideal option for anyone who is looking for an alternative to pharmaceuticals and prescription drugs.
CBD- The alternative we’ve been waiting for!
The people have spoken and it’s time they are heard. Providing a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals with addictive and severe side effects is at the core of what Brothers N Arms is working on accomplishing. By tapping into natural and organic alternatives such as CBD we can address relief for a variety of symptoms such as chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, depression, among a variety of other conditions.
More research and studies still need to be conducted, but with the research and knowledge of CBD, we have today. Most scientists and doctors can agree that CBD has the potential to alleviate a wide range of symptoms.
What symptoms does CBD help alleviate? I'm glad you asked!
- Autoimmune diseases (inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis)
- Neurological conditions (Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Huntington’s chorea, stroke, traumatic brain injury)
- Metabolic syndrome (diabetes, obesity)
- Neuropsychiatric illness (autism, ADHD, PTSD, alcoholism)
- Gut disorders (colitis, Crohn’s)
- Cardiovascular dysfunction (atherosclerosis, arrhythmia)
- Skin disease (acne, dermatitis, psoriasis)
- This is just the beginning. As studies and research continue we believe that the number of medicinal properties will continue to grow proving to the world the limitless power of CBD.
The special sauce - How does CBD work?
CBD like any other medicine interacts with our bodies in a variety of different ways. Research shows that humans like many other mammals have what is referred to as the “Endocannabinoid System” Experts are still trying to fully understand the ECS. But so far, we know it plays a role in regulating a range of functions and processes, including:
- reproduction and fertility
One of the main ways CBD plays a role in alleviating our bodies is by mimicking and augmenting the effects of the compounds in our bodies called “endogenous cannabinoids”. Given this name because of their similarity to compounds found in the cannabis/hemp plants.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) plays several significant roles in regulating a wide range of physiological processes that affect our everyday lives - our mood, energy levels, intestinal fortitude, immune activity, blood pressure, bone density, glucose metabolism, pain receptors, stress, and hunger to name a few.
What are the consequences if the endocannabinoid system isn’t functioning correctly?
It’s simple...you get sick!
The latest in scientific research has shown that the endocannabinoid system is dysregulated in nearly all pathological conditions. Thus, it stands to reason that “modulating endocannabinoid system activity may have therapeutic potential in almost all diseases affecting humans,” as Pal Pacher and George Kunos, scientists with the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), suggested in a 2014 publication.
By modulating the endocannabinoid system and enhancing endocannabinoid tone, CBD and THC can slow – or in some cases stop – disease progression.
In other words, if you’re interested in exploring a natural option to help alleviate the variety of symptoms I’ve outlined above.
